The Municipality of Piraeus participates in the European program of International Urban Regional Cooperation (IURC) and cooperates with the city of Puerto Montt, Chile, with the aim of exchanging knowledge and good practice around Blue Economy and Nature-based Solutions and more particularly in the following areas:
Nature Based Solution regarding:
- Natural solutions to create resilient urban ecosystems
- Nature-based solutions in public spaces of deprived areas
Urban Agenda/Planning regarding:
- The blue economy as an integral urban strategy
- Strengthening collaboration with universities and companies to promote new
productive and technological ideas to keep our seas healthy
The 1st meeting of the two partners Piraeus – Puerto Montt took place in September 2022 in in Chile, while the 2nd technical session of this cooperation took place in the city of Piraeus, with the presence and participation of the partners from Puerto Montt.
As part of its efforts to promote safe urban development in Piraeus and create a framework for innovative models in the urban security field, the BSFS project was presented during the seminar on Blue Economy and Nature-based Solutions organised by the Municipality of Piraeus in the morning of 11th November.
The BeSecure-FeelSecure (BSFS) project manager Ms. Erifili Baloti had the opportunity to present the actions and initiatives of the the project. The presentation focused on the implementation of BSFS technologies in urban environment and highlighted to particular spatial interventions implemented in different areas in the city of Piraeus.
